Elizabeth is a freelance non-fiction author and photographer. First acknowledged in 1982, she has had award-winning poems published in nationally recognized anthologies and has written extensively on national, social, and political issues.
Elizabeth confronts many controversial issues, encompassing concerns important to women and the impact of various child-rearing philosophies on juveniles facing certain incarceration. She has always strived to be a vital part of the solution to many of society’s problems.
It is a novel based on the true story of Elizabeth, an illegitimate child born and abandoned in San Diego in 1956.
It encompasses the hardships and passions in the tumultuous lives of Elizabeth, her relatives who kidnapped her, and her estranged mother.
Shortly after her birth, Elizabeth’s mother returned to Chicago with only two of her children. The people Betty called Mom and Dad fled to a small New England town, where she was deceived and then cautioned to remain silent. This story follows her journey through alcoholism, molestation, rape, and abortion.
At age 21, after many attempts to leave, Elizabeth finally escapes the lies and oppression that plagued her for years. It was her instincts and her belief in a better future that saved her life.
The author hopes this story will inspire others to find the courage to rise above their circumstances and find power in their own strength and faith in God.
Many of the trials Betty endured plague many children and adults in today’s society. Helping children, teens, new mothers, and physically and emotionally abused women was why the author became a Social Worker. This book takes her dream a step further. Guiding women and men who want to move beyond abuse and learn from their experiences while succeeding, not just surviving.
People inherently want to help themselves but often can’t afford or don’t have time to see anyone, so they turn to self-help books. Books they feel can and do identify with their situations
